The Brandywine Zoo is located in beautiful Brandywine Park in Wilmington, Delaware. The Zoo grounds cover 13 landscaped acres on high ground above the Brandywine River. The Zoo hosts 150 animals, from tigers to snakes, and is open all year round.

The Brandywine Zoo is managed by the Division of Parks and Recreation with the support of the Delaware Zoological Society.

The Brandywine Zoo is a member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) and is one of 214 accredited zoos and aquariums in North America, a distinction that marks its commitment to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for the visitor and a better future for all living things.

Parking
Parking for the Brandywine Zoo is free to all. Park in the following places:

  • Mid-way up Van Buren St. (the cobblestone hill) just behind the Education Building there are limited parking spaces that include two spaces reserved for handicapped permit parking. These spaces are closest to the Zoo entrance.

  • Extensive parking lots across from the Zoo in Brandywine Park just off of North Park Drive.

    You may pay for your Zoo admissions, Zootique purchases, Zoo Camp registration and Zoo membership with Visa, MasterCard or American Express.

    Lost & Found
    For lost children or personal articles or in the case of an emergency, visitors should go to the Administration Building or the Zootique Gift Shop. Phone inquiries, call (302) 571-7788.

    Zoo Rules
  • NO SMOKING on the zoo grounds or inside any building.
  • Do not feed the Zoo animals.
  • No pets are allowed on grounds. Certified guide/service dogs are accepted.
  • Radios, roller blades, bicycles, skateboards, scooters and balloons are NOT permitted.
  • Visitors may purchase snacks at the Snack Bar or bring lunch to enjoy in the picnic area.
  • Zoo visitors should stay on the pathways and off of the rockwork, fences and railings.
  • Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.
  • Visitors are not permitted to pick or otherwise damage the plants on Zoo grounds.
  • Weapons are prohibited on Zoo grounds.
  • The Zoo regrets that it cannot offer any rain checks or refunds.
  • The Brandywine Zoo reserves the right to take photographs of visitors and use these images for Zoo marketing and promotions without compensation or direct permission.

    Directions from South of Wilmington
    1. Take I-95 North to Exit 7 (Delaware Ave.)
    2. Continue straight for 4 lights.
    3. At 4th light (Delaware Ave.) turn LEFT.
    4. Turn RIGHT on Van Buren St. (sign "I-95 Baltimore/South")
    5. Continue straight on Van Buren St.
    6. Go under overpass and cross Bridge.
    8. Immediately over bridge is ZOO entrance.
    9. Parking lot is on the right (along the River).

    Directions from North of Wilmington
    1. Take I-95 South to Route 202 South (Concord Pike).
    2. Go South on Concord Ave. - 0.1 mi.
    3. Turn RIGHT onto N. Broom St. (Kreston Liquors) - 0.5 mi.
    4. Follow several blocks to a "T" - Turn LEFT onto W. 18th St. - 0.2 mi.
    5. Turn RIGHT onto N. Van Buren St. (cobblestone street) - 0.2 mi.
    6. Brandywine Zoo Main Entrance on your left.
    7. At bottom of cobblestone hill, turn LEFT onto N. Park Dr. - 0.1 mi.
    8. Parking lot is on the right (along the River).

    From Downtown Wilmington
    1. Take Delaware Ave.to Van Buren St.
    2. Cross Van Buren St. Bridge.
    3. Immediately over bridge is ZOO entrance.
    4. Follow RIGHT onto N. Park Dr. (Zoo is on your left).
    5. Parking lot is on the right (along the River).

    From Wilmington Hotels
    The Brandywine Zoo is a short cab ride from downtown Wilmington. Please inquire with the hotel concierge for cabs or public transportation to the Brandywine Zoo. The Zoo is a lovely walk from some downtown hotels.
